SOUL FOOD    ****

Budapest, Hungary

To be fair it’s probably the only soul food in Budapest but I highly recommend this charming little spot. Its run by two local guys one of whom lived in New York for a time and discovered good soul food while visiting New Orleans and opened this place in the Jewish quarter of Budapest. I'm very glad they did. The place itself is small but they do take-out and delivery but whether you can get a table or not the food is to die for. I had ribs last night with red beans and rice, best I've had in a very long time. They do Po'boys, jambalaya, gumbo, all the good stuff. The food here is very happy comfort food and the general vibe matches perfectly. Excellent work, well done team.

MILLENNIUM DA PIPPO    ****

Budapest, Hungary

I've been here twice so far but I'm working in Budapest for a few months and luckily this little spot is just around the corner so I'll be coming here a lot.
It can be a little odd sometimes just having a table for one, many places don't really like it for a number of reasons but these guys always hook me up with a good table and last night they had a big party going on upstairs so they were crazy busy but I told them I wasn't in a hurry and was quite happy with a carafe of the house red, very nice by the way, until they were ready.
I had burrata and prosciutto salad that was wonderful followed by veal saltimbocca that’s making my mouth water just thinking about it. Sautéed spinach and potatoes with garlic and rosemary on the side just finished it off beautifully.
It has a truly authentic Italiano vibe and having read some of the other reviews about bad service I would have to strongly disagree, it's not a high-class fancy place at all, just very high quality food served by very busy waiters who are great if you treat them properly.
I can't wait to go back.

ESCA    *****

Budapest, Hungary

I was in Budapest for 8 months last year and had a lot of really good food at all kinds of different restaurants. This little place was very close to my hotel and when my wife came to stay we thought we'd give it a try. After the first course I realised that we were in for a very special treat, this was one of the best meals I've ever had. Every morsel was super delicious and presented beautifully. It has a nice cosy little bistro atmosphere but the food prepared in the tiny kitchen by chef and owner Gábor Fehér is anything but bistro fare, this is top drawer and an absolute must if you're ever down Budapest way...and there's a mirror on the ceiling so you can watch him work. Superb.

Big Fish   ****

Budapest, Hungary

Four of us went here today for lunch and we had a really good time. The food is really tasty and I like the way the whole place is set up, there's no menu as such, you go to the counter and choose what fish you want and how you'd like it cooked and off you go.
The four star rating is because they forgot to bring one of the starters but in their defence is was Valentines day and very busy, I'll definitely be going back to this place, very good.
